Maoists Establish Base In NE India: Two Maoist Cadres Nabbed In Assam

Guwahati, May 16: Security forces apprehended two Maoist cadres including a woman cadre in Assam on Thursday, officials said.

Following a tip-off, a joint team of Guwahati city police, army intelligence wing had launched operation at Udalbakra Rajnagar Survey area in Guwahati city and apprehended a maoist women cadre on Wednesday night.

The nabbed maoist women cadre was identified as Kabita Rabha alias Baby Mukherjee.

Police recovered two computer sets, one computer hard disk, three pen drives, two mobile phones, 15 CDs, large quantity of Maoist literature, some documents in her possession.

In other hand, police also apprehended another maoist cadre Rajeev Rabha from Chaygaon area of Kamrup (Rural) district on Thursday.

Assam Police IGP Dr LR Bisnoi said that, Kabita Rabha is the second wife of Anukul Chandra Naskar Paresh alias Paramesh, among the oldest leaders of CPI (Maoists), who was arrested by police on May 7 from Silchar in Barak Valley.

On April 26, based on precise input of Gajraj Corps Military Itelligence unit, Assam police in a very professional operation had achieved the biggest breakthrough against Maoists by apprehending Aklanta Rabha alias Pobitra Sangma, Central Committee Member of CPI (Maoist) and Siraj Rabha, training instructor from Jharkhand.

'Based on intense interrogation of these apprehendees by Assam Police and military intelligence personnel and other intelligence agencies, Rekha Rabha, wife of Aklanta Rabha and later Anukul Chandra Naskar alias Paresh Da were piched,' Dr Bisnoi said.

'The operations by State police and Army Intelligence have broken the back of Maoist efforts to spread their tentacles in Assam. It is because of this fear of security forces that Kabita Rabha, incharge of CPI (Maoist) Publicity Wing in Assam was in process of shifting her up a new base in Guwahati,' the Assam Police IGP said.

The left wing extremists had linked with several outfits of north eastern region of India including Paresh Barua alias Paresh Asom led United Liberation Front of Asom (Independence).

Maoists have been trying to establish their bases in Garo hills of Meghalaya.

The Assam Police IGP said that, the state police have found a list of 181 maoist cadres including 23 women cadres in Assam.
