Obrempon FM Organizes 2nd Blood Donation To Support Hospital Blood Banks

In this crucial time of the nation's health problems coupled with the strike actions of the medical doctors and pending their return to work, Obrempon FM, a radio station in a little more than two years of their existence has organised a blood donation exercise for the second time to help save human lives.

The donation exercise took place at the grounds of the Metro Mass Transport Yard at the Agona Swedru in the Central Region.

The donation exercise was carried out to assist the blood bank of the Agona Swedru Municipal Government Hospital to save lives of patients who would be in need of them.

This Exercise is an annual programme which is carried out by the station on account of their number one focus as a station which is health.

The second of its kind exercise recorded 33 units of blood for the day of all the 100 and over participants who willingly came to donate to donate their blood.

One of the staff of the station who is a health presenter, Mr. Silas Akwei Gyansah, who is popularly known on radio as OBREMPON-BA said that it is time for people to be selfless and have pity in these hard times because, Ghana needs not only wise people but also people who are strong to work effectively to ensure the development of the country.

He stated that the way by which one can prove to be selfless is for one to lay down his life for his brethren especially to the one who needs it most in life at the point of need.

According to him, he sees it to be the greatest sacrifice one can make to his neighbour and for that reason, if someone says that he or she would never take part in such an exercise, then he or she should be well adviced.

He later stated that whoever donates blood to save lives should be proud of it because, it is towardss a good course going a long way to save lives.

The Marketing Manager of the station, Mr. Francis Nana Amoako stated that looking at the present situation of blood shortages in our hospitals, it has become very necessary that they embark on such an exercise especially as it is within their ambit to do in order that lives would be saved in the society especially within the community where they recide.

He continued that our needs are insatiable and taht no one is an island on his own and since it takes a second for a human to be vulnerable within the shortest possible time, it beholds on everyone to participate regularly in programmes such as this since, it sometimes takes the help of humans to bring another human out of a problem.

He emphasized on an advice of health expert and entreated that people should donate to save lives and and in so doing would get rid of the old blood in them and do away with its associated diseases as they are being replaced by new and fresh blood in order to keep them younger and ore healthier than they were before.

Mr. Michael Obeng Boakye who is the Human Resourse Manager of the station and also doubles as the Public Relation Officer stated that since no one knows who would be next in line of need, it is only good that people develope a good attitude towards a good course lik e donating blood to save a life.

The Municipal Chief Executive of the Agona West Municipal Assembly, Hon. Samuel Oppong donated an amount of One-Thousand Ghana Cedis to help the donation exercise as well as the cash help of the Agona Swedru Teachers Credit Union.

Others were the DE United Food Industries Limited (DUFIL), producers of Indomie Instant Noodles, Goodfriend Drinking water, Poineer Drinking Water, and many others who helped to make the blood donation exercise of the station that goes with the slogan - THE VOICE OF THE PEOPLE- a success.
