We don't trust 'NDC police' to guard Supreme Court – Sir John

General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie says they don't trust the police detailed to provide security at the Supreme Court.

According to him, based on previous experience with the police, the NPP has lost confidence in the security service to do a neutral job.

Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie also known as Sir John was speaking on Asempa FM's Ekosii Sen programme Friday.

The police upon request by the Judicial Service has beefed up security at the Supreme Court after the presiding judge in the ongoing Presidential Election Petition, Justice Atuguba directed accounting firm, KPMG to audit the pink sheets tendered in evidence by the petitioners.

Hours after the directive there were claims that some National Security operatives on Thursday besieged the Court premises demanding the keys to the Registry.

But a statement signed by the Greater Accra Police PRO DSP Freeman Tettey said "the new security arrangement encompasses detailing personnel for both night and non sitting court days including weekends. The arrangement is to enhance or improve security at the premises of the court".

However, Sir John on Ekosii Sen stated unequivocally that the policemen sent to guard the pink sheets are "NDC police".

"The police said they cannot provide security for demonstrators but now can offer 24 hours security? he queried.

He alleged that the move is part of a grand scheme by the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) to tamper with the exhibits submitted by the petitioners to support their case.

Sir John posited that because the NDC's plan A to use National Security has backfired, they have decided to implement plan B by using the police.

The NPP scribe said the party has every cause to belief that President John Mahama is behind all the machinations just to stay in power.

"The action of the National Security must be condemned by all right thinking persons in the country. If John Mahama claims he knows nothing about it, he should condemn the act" he exclaimed.

Sir John said the NPP is not bothered because they have cogent evidence to prove that they submitted 11842 pink sheets to the court.

In a quick rebuttal, General Secretary of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia called the bluff of Sir John describing his allegations as baseless.

He said the NPP is crying foul because their plans to tamper with the pink sheets have been foiled by the police presence at the court.

The NDC scribe said National Security or the police have every right to safeguard all the exhibits in the possession of the court registry.

He said the police presence at the court is long over due especially when pink sheets tendered in evidence are under contention.

Asiedu Nketia commended the security service for being proactive and urged the NPP to cooperate with the police if they don't have any ulterior motive.
