Veep discusses investment opportunities at World Economic Forum

Accra, May 9, GNA - The Vice President, Mr Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur, has called on international financial institutions as well as the private sector to work with government in developing Ghana's energy sector.

He said a similar partnership was also required in constructing world class roads, hospitals and other infrastructural needs of the country.

A statement issued by the Office of the Vice President, copied to the Ghana News Agency, said he made the call during discussions with the Chief Executive Officer of HSBC Africa (formerly The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited), Mr Andrew Dell, on the sidelines of the 23rd World Economic Forum in Cape Town, South Africa on Wednesday.

Mr Amissah-Arthur said the government was ready to ensure a fruitful public private partnership in the delivery of critical infrastructural needs of the country.

This approach to financing projects, the Vice President said, is intended to provide opportunity for private sector participation in the development of the country as well as reduce the huge public debt that result from the delivery of infrastructure projects.

Mr Dell said HSBC has had long standing relations with Ghana through Cocobod and other institutions and welcomed the government's new drive towards the public private partnership.
