Toronto Holds Ghanafest 2013
07.05.2013 LISTEN

The organizers that brought Ghana Fest 2012 in Toronto are back at it again. August 18th 2012 marked the first time Ghana Fest was held in Toronto. It was the first festival of its kind in Canada showcasing Ghanaian Cultural Heritage, music, dance, food and fashion. The use of the Amphitheatre and live band was the perfect entertainment for folks.

Why Ghana Fest? The idea for a festival was conceived over twenty years ago by Wofa Yaw Nyarko the present president of the Ghanaian Canadian Association of Ontario. After many years, his passion for the need for the festival remained unabated.

Last year, it was imperative that the festival at least be started to see how the Ghanaian community patronize the festival, hence the beginning of Ghana Fest (Ghanaian Akwaaba Festival). Similar events and festivals are held around the world. The most notable one is Ghana Fest Chicago. Ghana Fest has come to symbolize the unity of Ghanaians in Canada and an avenue to showcase businesses and talents.

The second annual Ghana Fest will be held on August 17th 2013 at the Earl Bales Park located at Shepherd and Bathurst (same location as the previous one). This year's event promises to be bigger and better.

The festival will highlight Ghanaian Canadian cultural and financial contributions in Canada. Attending and performing at this year's event will be popular Ghanaian Highlife musician kwabena kwabena and local artists. The consular general and the consulate amongst other notables and people of all walks of life will be in attendance.

This year has a slight change; there will be a concert which will be held at Luna Ball Room on the 16thof August then a picnic and open air concert at the amphitheater, showcasing North American artists of Ghanaian and or African origins on August 17th2013. This year's event promises a few surprises that are bound to entertain incite and provoke. Please mark your calendars.

This year's event is brought to you by the Ghanaian Canadian Association of Ontario, Afro Entertainment Productions, and Philjoe Multi Media and Ghanaian Canadian Community Center. The event is to highlight the need for a community center for our youth and to promote and foster our cultural identity and unity in Canada.
