Torgah successfully defends title

The 18th Moanda Open Golf Championship in Gabon saw Ghana's Vincent Torgah turned out amazing style to defend the trophy he won last year in a substantial fashion.

Having carried with him the hopes of fans in Ghana and other parts of the sub-region, Torgah radiated the course with confidence that ensured that fellow contenders such as Gift Willy (Nigeria), Odoh (Nigeria), Ebela Desire (Cameroun) and Emos Korblah (Ghana) stayed in a yawing distance from the ultimate prize of $10, 000.

Keeping a good balance from tee to green, the Tema based golfer shot a sumptuous 6-under 282 for a defining victory at the keenly contested African event.

He opened his campaign on a good note with 69 after returning 7 birdies, 7 pars and 4 bogeys to complete the first round. A level par on day two saw him in contention en route to day three where he shot 2-under 70 to maintain his lead.

Bidding for his second straight victory, Torgah closed with a 1-under 71 after he had 5 birdies to go with 9 pars and 4 boogies.

“My game has been feeling great,” Torgah said. “It's good to know that I have kept the progress that I had from Nigeria and other competitions.”

Nigeria's Gift Willy suffered a crushing loss for second place even though he demonstrated enough traits of been in contention in the early rounds. He however crumbled along the line as he shot 72, 74, 69 and a level 72 to stay five clear shots away from Torgah.

Ghana's Emos Korblah and Kojo Barni both shot 289 to tie for the third place position ahead of Nigeria and Cameroun's Odoh and Ebela Desire respectively.

Ranked second on the Nigerian Professional Golfers Association (PGAN) Order of Merit, Vincent Torgah considers that, defending the coveted Gabon Open will sure build great load of vibrations and give him the necessary confidence to continue in his stride for more laurels.
