Can Wereko-Brobbey Think Straight?

You see, it is one thing to shamelessly curry favor with the "terminally embattled" President John Dramani Mahama; and, altogether, another to cynically pretend as if Ghanaians were so ignorant and rather too unenlightened to fully appreciate the radix, or root-cause, of the cacophonic orchestra of perennially poor leadership that landed us in the current industrially unfriendly state of avoidable energy crisis in the country (See "Blame Mills for Power Crisis, Not Mahama - Wereko-Brobby[sic]" JoyOnline.com/Ghanaweb.com 4/10/13).

In other words, faulting the late President John Evans Atta-Mills for the "Dumsornomical" strangulation of Ghana's erratic power supply, as Dr. Charles Wereko Brobbey sought to do recently, was simply disingenuous.

According to the former Chief Executive Officer of the Volta River Authority (VRA), the Kufuor-led New Patriotic Party (NPP) government left a comprehensive plan, coupled with readily accessible funding sources for rendering Ghana both energy-efficient and self-sufficient, but that this purported plan was recklessly and unwisely abandoned by a gratuitously hostile Mills-led National Democratic Congress (NDC) government.

I find such an argument to be not only untenably absurd and downright preposterous, but also unpardonably sophistic. First of all, the now-President Mahama was the number-two man in the Mills administration and widely known to have been an active participant in policy formulation and execution.

And to be certain, this is all the more reason why the Mills-led government was often described as the Mills-Mahama administration. Dr. Wereko-Brobbey cannot honestly feign to have been totally unaware of the foregoing fact.

But, of course, it is all too laughably clear that his much-touted executive membership of the NPP and all, Dr. Wereko-Brobbey is, nonetheless, hell-bent on unconscionably ensuring the political legitimization of the man who may well have colluded with Ghana's Electoral Commissioner to rig Election 2012 in order to enable him to be declared winner of the same. And his reasons are not far-fetched.

Needless to say, it is an open secret that the man who was summarily fired by President John Agyekum-Kufuor as CEO of the VRA, primarily due to his gross managerial incompetence and taxpayer-unfriendly extravagant lifestyle, bears a long-standing grudge against the NPP Presidential Candidate that goes back at least to Dr. Wereko-Brobbey's late Uncle Victor Owusu's epic loss of the 1979 presidential election to the late President Hilla (Babini) Limann. I have already amply discussed this issue in a previous article and therefore do not feel the need to reprise it here.

The second reason, of course, is the fact that having miserably failed at his own personal bid for the most powerful job in the land, Dr. Wereko-Brobbey has decided to make a career objective that doggedly entails the consistent and inexorable frustration of the presidential ambitions of any fellow party member whom he deems, somehow, to be less qualified than himself. Needless to say, he will never succeed in fulfilling his evil machinations.

It is also quite clear that the man who once formed his own political party to contest the presidency is indubitably at the crossroads. It is therefore not altogether unreasonable that some staunch members of the NPP, including some NPP Youth Wing operatives, have publicly and vehemently impugned Dr. Wereko Brobbey's ideological loyalty to the NPP.

The critical reader and thinker clearly sees this in Tarzan's call for Mr. Mahama to extend him a personal invitation so as to enable the President to learn the appropriation of a winsome rhetoric from Dr. Wereko-Brobbey, vis-a-vis Mr. Mahama's legion public promises and other pronouncements germane to the prompt resolution of the nation's energy crisis.

Needless to say, one does not need even a kindergarten graduate diploma to readily figure out the fact that Mr. Mahama is highly unlikely to solicit the technical advice of, perhaps, the most ideationally bankrupt and administratively incompetent CEO to ever head the Volta River Authority.
