Let's pray against nation wreckers - Methodist Bishop

Sunyani, April 7, GNA - The Reverend Kofi Asare Bediako, Methodist Bishop of the Sunyani Diocese, at the weekend called on the clergy and all religious groupings to pray against all activities of nation wreckers.

He noted with regret that partisan politics had polarized the nation to the extent that the possibility of constitutional crisis and coup d'état which could tear the nation apart could not be ruled out in the current democratic dispensation.

Rev Bediako made the call when preaching a sermon at the 5th national thanksgiving service in Sunyani.

It was organised by the Sunyani Municipal Assembly in collaboration with the Brong-Ahafo Regional Coordinating Council and was on the theme 'The people that know their God shall be strong and do exploits'.

The Methodist Bishop observed that God had taken Ghana through six general elections peacefully and the responsibility lay on Ghanaians to also play their part by safeguarding the 1992 constitution.

Rev Bediako noted with regret that partisan politics had brought division among tribes, churches and religious groupings and even families which had consequently created national strife and enmity.

He pointed out that politics had now eaten into all aspects of social life including the church in that some congregations had also been divided on political lines.

Rev Bediako emphasised that Ghana now needs God's mercy and grace to enable her to maintain its prevailing peace and called on all and sundry to pray for the nation.

Mr Paul Evans Aidoo, Brong-Ahafo Regional Minister advised politicians and political party leaderships to endeavour to call their followers to order whenever they misconduct themselves especially on the airwaves.

He advised Ghanaians to bury their political and all other differences and forge ahead in unity as that was the only way to facilitate accelerated national development.

Mr Kwasi Oppong-Ababio, Sunyani Municipal Chief Executive, noted that 'a nation without God's guidance is a nation without order' and that explained why the government instituted the national thanksgiving service in 2009 for Ghanaians to pray and thank God for the bountiful blessings.

Prayers were made for the presidency, economy, national security and the media.
