Election Petition Not About Nana Akufo-Addo—NPP Activist Declares

A leading member of the “Let My Vote Count Alliance” Mr. Kwaku Anane-Gyinde has noted that the election petition pending before the Supreme Court of Ghana is not about Nana Addo Danka Akufo-Addo but a step to right a wrong that has been committed against the people of Ghana.

“This petition is about the millions of Ghanaians who cued several hours to exercise their democratic right only for this right to be subverted and undermined by the electoral commission with the connivance of Mr. John Dramani Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC)”

Speaking at a “Let My Vote Count” rally in Cologne on Easter Sunday, Mr. Anane-Gyinde commended Nana Akufo-Addo for choosing the path of peace by going to court rather asking the over 5 Million Ghanaians who voted for him to take to the streets.

He pointed out that the current peace and stability in Ghana is largely attributable to the high statesmanship demonstrated by Nana Akufo-Addo following the declaration of the election results which by all standards were characterized by fraud and widespread irregularities.

Mr. Anane-Gyinde explained that the decision to petition the Supreme is informed by the determination to ensure that the freely expressed sovereign will of the ordinary Ghanaian is respected and also prevent a recurrence of electoral fraud in future elections.

On his part Mr. Kobby Annan, former Chairman of NPP-Holland observed that although no electoral system is perfect, the irregularities uncovered in the 2012 elections were so massive and systematic enough to render the outcome invalid.

He pointed out that the irregularities that occurred particularly over voting, voting without biometric verification, Duplication of Polling Station Codes, Duplication of Serial Numbers on Pink Sheets and the failure by Presiding officers to sign the Pink sheets all tendered to favor Mr. John Mahama.

Mr. Annan argued that this cannot be a mere coincidence but a deliberate and well calculated move to massage the figures and manipulate the final outcome of the December 7 polls saying “this should not go unchallenged because it undermines our democracy”

In his contribution, Mr. Charles Ankamah , Deputy General Secretary-NPP Germany reminded the Supreme Court of the need to ensure the speedy adjudication of the Petition to enable Ghanaians and Ghana to move on.

Mr. Ankamah maintained that the long delay in resolving this dispute has put the country in suspense, anxiety and uncertainty which deters foreign investors as well as making it difficult for local investors to plan for the long term.

Mr. Adu Amankwaa Chairman of the Council of Elders- NPP Holland appealed to Ghanaians particularly NPP supporter to remain resolute in their support for Nana Akufo-Addo adding “We are convinced that the path chosen by Nana Akufo-Ado is the right one and that we believe in the rightness of this conviction”

Similar events will be held in all major cities across Europe at a date yet to be announced.
