Video of the Day : Maurice Greene back on his career
08.03.2013 LISTEN

The American athlete Maurice Greene is a track and field sprinter who specialized in the 100 meters and 200 meters.

First athlete to win the 100 and 200 m at the same World Athletics Championship in Seville in 1999, and winner of the 2000 Olympics, Greene also held for six years the world record in the 100m with a time of 9' 79, established on June 16, 1999 during the Athens world championships.

He announced his retirement in February 2008 explaining the handicap that represented his repeated injuries.

Among the sprinters in the late 1990s and early 2000s, the longevity of his performance at the highest level is a challenge to take up.

For example, he ran for 8 consecutive years under 10 seconds in the 100m. Greene ran 53 races of 100 meters in 10 seconds during his career, which in his time was a real record. This record has now been surpassed by Asafa Powell, who counts more than 60 racing in 100 m under 10 seconds.

The Champion, elected to the Hall of Fame of athletics in the United States in 2011 is coming back to his career.
