New-Dormaa (B/A), March 7, GNA - Mr Eric Opoku, Brong-Ahafo Regional Minister, has praised the operational performance of the Third Garrison Battalion (3BN) for the past years.

He said the effective collaboration between the garrison, police and other security agencies in controlling crime in the Region have been recognised and highly appreciated.

Mr Opoku said this during the Open Day event at the Liberation Barracks at New-Dormaa in the Sunyani Municipality.

Open Day was established by the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) more than a decade ago and organised on March 7, every year for the general public to acquaint themselves with the operations of the military.

Mr Opoku said the high level of discipline and civility of officers and men of the garrison are some of the characteristics that have also been recognised my many in the society.

He expressed optimism that the relationship between the soldiers and other security agencies in crime fighting would be further strengthened saying the establishment of the open day was in the right direction and needed to be sustained as it would help to build a sound and cordial relationship between GAF and the general public.

Major Joseph Medeama, Commander Rear (Officer commanding the 3BN), assured the general public that the military was established to protect them and would not do anything to harm or infringe on their fundamental human rights.

He said the garrison would continue to work hard to strengthen the cordial relationships between the soldiers and civilians for their mutual trust and benefit.

Maj  Medeama later led the Regional Minister and some school children through the activities of the garrison.
