Letter A Striking Experience Worth Sharing!
FEB 26, 2013 LISTEN

Somewhere in March '08, whilst waiting for admissions after SHS, I went into opinion researching with Practical Sampling International (an opinion research firm). The work was very enthralling and personally, I admired it because our projects were focused on poroviding strategic insights to our clients.

It was a three phase project; Urban, semi- urban and rural. With the Urban and semi- urban, we went through with no snags so we surmised the rural was going to be more invloving!

We were moving along at a good clip until we got interrupted by some ferocious gang of Fulani herdsmen at the middle of a lonely road... They were four (4) in number, all masked. Two (2) were holding AK47 rifles, one of them was holding a club and the other one had nothing... each of these idiots (the bandits) acted excuisitetly in his disignated role.

Our team was made of 15 enumerators, 3 supervisors and 2 clients (fortunately for the clients, they weren't with us on that 'adventure'). We were all ordered out of the van and trust me, not only did the order made us rush out, it also prostrated the entire group. Spontaneously, I started reciting some verses of the Holy Quran (didn't even realise I was doing it aloud)... others were also seriously praying for the Lord's intervention.

Then, the operation begun! Cash, laptops and phones were expropriated amongst other things... our questionnaires were scattred and some received beatings for trying to act SMART!

After some few minutes, the operation was over and they ran back to where they belong (the bush)... we all thanked our stars and took off... on our way one lady told me that, as she focused on my bealific smile (which I never even noticed), she found her anxiety lifting, and in its place there was utter calm... I smirked because my heart hadn't return from heaven.

It was a gut-wrenching scene that I can't forget! Thank God no one lost the life!
