Akropong (E/R), Feb. 10, GNA - With barely six weeks to the commencement of the 2013 West African Secondary Schools Certificate Examinations (WASSCE), Okuapemman School Science Resource Centre has no science and laboratory equipment.

The centre has no furniture, pipes, gas, water and other gadgets to enable the students to take their practical lessons, in preparation for the upcoming WASSCE.

Mr Daniel Afari, Headmaster of the school disclosed this at the schools 56th Annual Speech and Prize Giving Day at Akropong at the weekend.

He said the situation is worrisome since it is hampering effective teaching and learning of science, especially in the conduct of practical lessons.

The Headmaster said one Zahelma Company Limited was awarded a contract in 2011 to equip the laboratory but only worked on the terrazzo floor and fixed louver blades.

'The project has since come to a standstill; Zahelma Company Limited is yet to install laboratory equipment, furniture and other paraphernalia,' he stressed.

Mr Afari appealed to the Ministry of Education (MoE) and the Ghana Education Service to compel the contractor to execute the remainder of the work.

He also called for the0renovation of the bad road leading to the school since it 'is not friendly to the visually impaired persons in the school.'

The Headmaster however expressed gratitude to Ghana Education Trust Fund and MoE for expanding the school's dining hall and the provision of bunker beds and a six unit classroom block for the school.

He was also appreciative to government for providing three four-unit two bedroom teachers' bungalow which is almost complete.
