The hawkers say they will surely come back later

Traders operating in unauthorized places in the Ashanti regional capital Kumasi say they are unperturbed about plans by the assembly to decongest the city.

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly gave hawkers and commercial bus operators working in unapproved areas up to midnight on Sunday February 2, 2013 to relocate or face arrest and seizure of their goods.

But according to Luv FM's Erastus Asare Donkor, the traders are not bothered about the upcoming exercise. They say they will surely come back later, Erastus reported.

He added that the KMA undertakes this exercise every year but the hawkers come back after a while.

Meanwhile, the Public Relations officer of the KMA, Gordon Nyame has warned that all unauthorized structures will be destroyed during the exercise and encouraged traders to relocate.

“...We will still make sure that we carry out public education [exercises] to make sure that they [the traders] do not get back to the place,” Mr Nyame stated.
