Member of Parliament for Sanerigu, Alhaji A. B. A. Fuseini has said he will not be surprised if the New Patriotic Party (NPP) makes a u-turn and withdraws their petition to contest the results of the 2012 general elections.

The NPP is contesting the December 7 and 8 elections results, which the Electoral Commission (EC) declared the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate John Mahama as winner.

Speaking on Alhaji and Alhaji on Radio Gold Saturday, he observed that the NPP know in their "heart of all hearts" that they lost the elections "clear and simple" but are struggling to come to terms with facts. He said in the process of trying to come to terms with the results, they are not handling issues in the right and proper manner and for that matter they are soiling themselves.

Alhaji Fuseini stressed that, “The National Executives Committee as well as the presidential candidate of the NPP, Nana Akufo-Addo, are engaged in this exercise in court just to remain politically relevant within the NPP.”

He narrated that, “When the NPP was going for the elections; they said the verdict was with the good people of this country and that they will respect the verdict of the good people of this country.

“When the people started speaking and they realize that the people's verdict was not going their way, they said it was the battle of the Lord; the Lord was going to speak and when the Lord spoke finally on Sunday, December 9, they said, 'no it was not the Lord, it is the court that must also speak' so that of the people, the declaration of the Lord have all not been enough.

“Now the court must speak, now the court wants to speak again and then there comes that it is some people in the court who must speak, some other people in the court must not speak hence they mount the challenge against the presiding judge that he is not fit to sit on account of a relation,” he said.

This, the former Night Editor of the Daily Graphic said, “is farcical [and] laughable”. The NPP is fast making itself the object of ridicule, he added.

He remarked: “If we were to say that people cannot sit on the basis of their relationship with people in political parties and other social groupings, there will not be a single person even from our circuit court to the Supreme Court who can ever sit on a case.”

According to Alhaji Fuseini, people could even argue that "the Chief Justice should not empanel the courts" because “she has relations”.

“Today if they say they have now withdrawn their [objection] against Justice Atuguba, are they telling Ghanaians that the reasons for which they asked for him to be recused are no longer there, they just contrive the reasons to get him out or the reasons have melted into thin air?” He quizzed.

He stressed that the NPP has “nothing to pursue in court…the exercise the NPP is embarking upon is like fishing in the desert.”

“I will not be surprised if at the end of it they themselves even come to say they will withdraw the suit. But even that I will ask the Supreme Court to refuse and rule on the case so that posterity will judge them for what they are,” he added.

Alhaji Fuseini claimed many NPP supporters know that Nana Akufo-Addo is a bad product, leading a group that have never accepted defeat in any election that they have lost.
