SPIRITUAL LINK TO KAMEL'S DEATH

04.01.2013 LISTEN
By Ghanaian Chronicle

The former Volta Regional Minister, Mr. Henry Ford Kamel is dead and gone, but snippets of information gathered by The Chronicle indicate that the former Member of Parliament for Akan constituency may not have died through natural causes.

Anytime a group of people meet, either in Ho or his constituency, to discuss the cause of his death, the conclusion is that juju, also known as 'African electronics,' was used to dispatch the calm-looking minister to the other world.

The Chronicle gathered that even a top government official with close links to the former Regional Minister was prevented by a family member from sitting in the chopper that went to collect the body of the departed minister from his constituency to the 37 Military Hospital Morgue in Accra. The said family member suspects that the top government official knew something about the sudden death of the former minister.

The former Volta Regional Minister died under mysterious circumstances during the Christmas festivities. He met a section of journalists in Ho to discuss his plans to woo investors to invest in wind turbo energy, before boarding his car and headed for his constituency, only to be pronounced dead, a few hours after arrival. He reportedly complained about a heart attack, and died a few minutes later.

Meanwhile, the Paramount Chief of the Gbi traditional area, Togbega Gabusu VI, says the sudden death of Mr. Henry Ford Kamel should be seen as a major loss to the chiefs and people of the Gbi traditional area in particular, the Volta region, and the nation in general.

Togbega Gabusu stressed that the death of Mr. Kamel was a disappointment to him (Togbega Gabusu) and the chiefs and people of the Gbi traditional area, because in his nine months of what he described as 'dedicated service to the region', the late Regional Minister spent six months out of the period resolving  the conflict at Hohoe.

The Gbi Paramount Chief, who was fully accompanied by the local 'asafo group', said this when he called on the Deputy Volta Regional Minister, Mr. Henry Ametefe, at the Regional Coordinating Council (VRCC), noted that the demise of the Regional Minister would go a long way to stifle development activities of the region, unless President John Mahama appointed an equally good person to replace him.

The Chief, who wept whilst speaking at the solemn ceremony, stressed that the late Regional Minister had demonstrated his commitment to ensuring the accelerated development of the region, particularly the northern part, which lags behind in terms of development.

Togbega Gabusu continued: 'Hon. Kamel has disappointed me and my chiefs by his sudden death; we have lost a great leader and unifier. Most of the times, I and my chiefs would deliberately push Kamel to the wall, with the aim of testing his temperament, but he proved on a number of occasions that he is capable and equal to the task of bringing peace to Gbi.'

He said the zeal at ensuring the rapid development in the region and his vision to see a total transformation of the Volta Region had come to a standstill.

The Gbi Chief pointed out that anybody appointed by the President as Regional Minister, should first of all endeavour to emulate the humility of the late Kamel. Togbega Gabusu later signed the book of condolence opened at the VRCC.

The Deputy Volta Regional Minister, Mr. Henry Ametefe, said the greatest honour the people of Gbi could offer the late Regional Minister was to build on the peace process started by him to ensure that peace and unity would be more visible at Hohoe after the curfew imposed on the Hohoe community was lifted.

In a related development, a vigil was kept on Wednesday in Ho in honour of the late Regional Minister, where the North Dayi Constituency Treasurer of the NDC, Mr. George Sika, advised the people of the region to love one another, and support leaders in the region in their efforts to promote development.
