The management of Golden Star Resources (GSR), a mining company operating on the soil of Prestea Bogoso in the Western Region, at the weekend, rekindled the spirit and aspirations of its employees, when it awarded a total of 53 employees who have served the company from five to ten years.

The company established the corporate awards scheme since 2007, and has seen a number of the employees being recognised by the mining company. This year's award was on the theme 'Redefining Labour Contribution to the Business,' and saw the awardees receive certificates, refrigerators and bags of cement.

The aim of the award was to rekindle the spirit of the drivers in recognition of their service to the company, according to the management.

Speaking on the theme, the Human Resource (HR) Manager of the company, Francis Eduku, noted that the old business rhetoric, where employees thought they were only paid to work, was gone.

'This is because, in today's workplace, to win in the midst of unyielding change, ferocious and enemy stabbing competition for talents and unstoppable innovation, employees from the lower level to the higher level in the organisation must re-think how they define and redefine the business,' he stated.

Mr. Eduku further explained that 'We are, therefore, collectively and individually responsible for the success and failure of our companies. As a solution, we must all adopt all-hands on deck approach to move our organisation towards growth and sustainability for the benefits of today's generation, and generations yet unborn.'

He, however, pointed out that employee's strength, skills, abilities, knowledge, among others, were the main driving force for organisational success, adding that aligning with and breathing the vision, mission and values of the company was critical for collective success.

The General Manager of GSR, Neil Laffin, on his part, pointed out that every company had two resources that it relied upon to be successful. The first, according to the GM, was the product, and the second, the human resource.

He added that no company could be successful without both.

Neil Laffin indicated that in today's environment where the only thing constant was change, the company had no option, but to perform to the best of it abilities and add value to the business in every step that it takes.
