President John Mahama has asked the security to be on red alert following sporadic acts of violence by angry supporters of the New Patriotic Party.

This was confirmed by a deputy Information Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.

The supporters have been angered by what they claim were rigged election results announced by the Electoral Commission on Sunday.

They have attacked media men and some persons said to supporters of the governing party.

On Tuesday, thousands of the supporters converged at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra in wild demonstrations.

A man, said to be a supporter of the National Democratic Congress and who was wearing his party's T-shirt was allegedly stabbed by the angry supporters at the Nkrumah Circle.

Speaking to Joy News, the deputy Minister said the president is unhappy with the turn of events and has asked the security to take the necessary action to restore law and order.

According to him, they have heard reports that two NDC supporters have been killed by irate NPP supporters.

He warned “nobody will be allowed to make this country ungovernable”.

Sour grapes
The Deputy Information Minister has also dismissed allegations of vote rigging in Friday's poll.

Chronicling reports from CODEO and other international observer missions, including congratulatory messages from the international community, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa everybody appears to be happy with how the elections were organized.

He insisted the NPP has been “isolated” in the claims of electoral fraud and asked the NPP to be sincere to their party supporters in order to ensure peace in the country.

Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa also described the call for peace by the NPP flagbearer as "double standards and open hypocrisy."
