NPP Goes Wild Over Alleged NDC Attacks

The leading opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has reacted angrily to what it described as the blatant attacks on its members with just a few days to the elections.

The party is equally worried over the seemingly apathetic attitude of the security agencies, particularly the police, in the face of the dastardly attacks.

The opposition party's concerns come in the wake of reported attack on the life of the Member of Parliament for (MP) Manhyia, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, by a group of thugs suspected to be members of the ruling party.

Addressing a press conference in Kumasi on Friday, the Deputy National Communication Director of the party, Yaw Buabeng Asamoah, warned that the NPP would no longer tolerate the abuses and impunity of the ruling party, and that it would mount a strong defence against threats from the NDC.

Mr. Buabeng Asamoah said the party would no longer sit unconcerned whilst its supporters and leading members continue to suffer at the hands of its political opponents.

Reiterating Nana Addo's commitment towards ensuring free, fair and transparent polls, Mr. Buabeng said the party would not be cowed by NDC's machinations and grand agenda to deprive the people of their will and aspirations to see Ghana's economic transformation under an NPP administration.

“To be clear, the NPP will not stand by while gun-toting NDC-sponsored thugs terrorise citizens and try to intimidate an MP from delivering Nana Addo's positive message to change now and move Ghana forward. Violence has no place in our country, and the actions by the NDC threaten Ghana's reputation as a stable and peaceful democracy,” the Deputy Communication Director noted.

The NPP expressed worry that such violent acts always seem to fall on the heels of a visit by President Mahama to an area of NPP support, adding, 'this is no coincidence, there is a clear and obvious correlation between the desperate campaign of His Excellency President John Mahama and the violence perpetrated by his supporters in NPP strongholds.'

The Deputy Communication Director, therefore, promised that in the coming days, the NPP would expose, with clear evidence, what it calls the diabolical plots to cheat, rig and steal this election.

Mr. Buabeng Asamoah further observed that President Mahama and the NDC were fully aware that when Ghanaians go to the polls on Friday, and the election is decided upon issues and track records of the two main parties, he (President Mahama) has zero hope of victory.

He added: “There is no way that the people of this country, who have seen the quality of education go down while the cost goes up, who have seen the prices of basic goods double, who have seen coffers of the NDC overflowing with oil money but no jobs for Ghanaians, and those who have seen their children and grandchildren saddled with debts, and Woyome lives a jet-set lifestyle, will give another chance to them.'

Mr. Buabeng Asamoah, therefore, called on the police to do impartial investigations and get to the bottom of the incident and similar others across the country, in order to protect their name and integrity.
