Accra, Nov. 15, GNA – Authorities of the Korle-bu Teaching Hospital announced on Thursday that Former Vice President Alhaji Aliu Mahama is alive and receiving treatment at the Hospital.

“Media reports that suggested that His Excellency, the former Vice President had died are therefore untrue", a statement signed by Mr Mustapha Salifu, Public Relations Officer of the Hospital, and copied to the Ghana News Agency in Accra said.

It added that his condition was critical and he was on life support at the Intensive Care Unit of the Cardiothoracic Center, adding that a team of specialists was working and constantly monitoring and reviewing his condition.

The statement said: “With the support of Government, we have also made a special arrangement with air-ambulance team to fly the former Vice President abroad for further management should the medical team attending to him make that recommendation.”

It cautioned the media to exercise great circumspection in publishing or broadcasting unfounded rumours about patients who were on admission.

“This is because such untrue stories impact negatively on the patient, the family and the medical team”, it stated, and indicated that the hospital authorities were ready to help the media verify such rumours to nib them in the bud.
