The Techiman Police in the Brong Ahafo Region have mounted an intensive search for William Bright Temang, a cashier of the Techiman branch of the Volta River Authority (VRA), for allegedly embezzling about ¢120 million belonging to the VRA.

The suspect is believed to have fled to Cote d Ivoire.

Briefing the Graphic in Sunyani, Inspector Christopher Tawiah , the Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), said around 6.30 am on September 29, Temeng allegedly gave the key to the cash office where he was working to a taxi driver to be given to his supervisor, Mr Daniel Kwabena Dartey, with a message that he (Temeng) had travelled.

Inspector Tawiah said the sudden “French leave” taken by Temeng, prompted his supervisor to instruct another staff of the finance department to conduct investigations on the cash receipt books and other documents at the office.

The investigations revealed that an amount of about ¢120 million was missing. Mr Dartey therefore lodged a complaint to the Techiman Police and all attempts by the police to trace the suspect and the taxi driver who sent the keys have proved futile as is believed that the taxi driver might have fled with Temeng.

Meanwhile, the police have appealed to the general public to help arrest the two suspects.
