The main Madina market near the Madina District Police is on fire.
Joy News' Dela Aglanu who is at the scene reports that the fire is burning from within the market and personnel from the Ghana Service are finding it very difficult to get access into the market to quench the fire.
He said hundreds of residents and shop owners have gathered at the scene looking on and wailing helplessly.
The only fire tender at the scene, he said, is trying to find a way through the back of the market; the first tender that came in had no water and has to go back, the police told him.
He described the raging fire as serious.
He noted that they only way the fire tender can get to the burning area, is to run through peoples' wares.
