Abuja, Nigeria, Oct. 12, GNA - Vida Anim, Ghana's sprint queen is optimistic she would win a gold medal when the track and field competition is decided at the Eighth All Africa Games in Abuja. Speaking to the GNA Sports on the eve of the athletics competition, Vida said she has trained very well for the Games and assured Ghanaians of a gold medal.

The young sprinter said she would compete in both the 100 metres and the 200 metres races and win despite such a great name as Mary Onyali of Nigeria to contend with.

The former African junior champion said she has come of age and it would just be proper to take over from Onyali who has been on the stage for a very long time.

"My only concern is Mary Onyali but she is old and I will do my best to take over from her," she said.

Vida said she will use the Games to launch her arrival at the world stage and give warning signals to the icons of female sprints on what to expect at the Athens Olympics.
