Two URP National Executive Members Quit
Two National Executive members of Mr Kofi Wayo’s United Renaissance Party (URP) say they have quit the party.
They are the General Secretary, Mr Francis Sowah, and the National Women’s Organiser, Madam Patience Kettor.
At a news conference in Accra to announce their resignation, the two claimed to be taking along 500 URP supporters.
They said they were going to make their next line of action public soon.
Giving reasons to back their decision to quit the party, Mr Sowah recounted that Mr Wayo had failed to provide them with the resources to work as a serious political party.
He accused Mr Wayo of using the party’s resources meant for the organsisation of a massive campaign ahead of election for his personal agenda, a situation which, he said, had seriously affected the campaign team of the party and also weakened structures within the URP.
According Mr Sowah, Mr Wayo had not shown any seriousness in the affairs of the party, and his negative behaviour had weakened the spirit of URP supporters and sympathisers ahead of the 2012 general election.
He said Mr Wayo lacked the capacity to adequately organise the talents that abound in the party.
They noted that efforts to build a strong political force to serve as an alternative to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) would come to nought if the present inaction continued.
“It is abundantly clear to all of us that the leader and founder of the URP does not know how to put these God-given gifts together to have a well-structured political party to win the 2012 general election, let alone solve the socio- economic problems of our motherland- Ghana, as he always claims,” Mr Sowah contended.
He added that they were willing and had gathered the needed expertise to help any serious political party to prosecute its agenda of building the country.
Madam Patience Kettor said they had rallied behind Mr Kofi Wayo since 2006 with the hope that he was going to show some seriousness in campaigning and resourcing the party.
“Some of us liked him and were prepared to help him lead this country. But we regret to say that he is not a serious man and never seems to change. We are leaving and would work hard for any party that we would join,” she said.
She said other national, regional, constituency and grass-root members had told them that they were going to follow suit .
