Aflao, Sept. 22, GNA - Personnel of the Ghana Revenue Authority, Customs Division, at Aflao, on Tuesday intercepted a Nigerian registered saloon car, carrying substance suspected to be narcotic drugs.
The three parcels of the whitish substance, wrapped in plain polythene bags, weighed 2.2 kilograms each.
The driver in charge of the Mercedes Benz car with registration number JJJ 93-AQ had absconded.
A source close to the Division told the Ghana News Agency that the vehicle from Lagos en-route Accra, with the driver being the only occupant, pulled up at the last checkpoint at the Aflao border, at about 2130 hours.
It said during a check, the personnel realised that the base of a travelling bag in the car was unusually stiff, and when they emptied it they found the substance.
The source said the driver, claimed the bag belonged to a passenger, who together with others took the lead to the public bus terminal at Aflao while he (driver) was undergoing entry formalities.
The driver requested to be allowed to go and bring the owner of the bag but he did not return.
The source said when the bag was examined the next day; personnel found the substance neatly covered with a piece of plywood at the base of the bag.
It said a Nigerian driving license bearing the name of one Oluwafemi Msolanke, vehicle documents and two cellular phones were found on the car.
The source said the substance had been handed over to the Narcotic Control Board Secretariat at Aflao for transfer to Accra for further examination.
The Ben Ben Berkley, Aflao Sector Commander, Customs Division, confirmed the story, but declined to give further details.

Indeed this is the second or third time a Nigerian driver has absconded Ghana Authorities at the border after illegal substance have been found in their cars . Indeed if the sector commander does not fire someone , then he himself must be fired. This excuse is too good to be true . Are we dealing with trained adults here ?
