Oguaa children march for peaceful elections

Cape Coast, Sept. 22, GNA - More than 1,000 children from 20 basic and Senior High Schools in the Cape Coast Metropolis on Friday embarked on a peace walk through the principal streets of Cape Coast, to mark this year's World Peace Day.

The children, who pledged among others, to reject any form of violence, be respectful and contribute to the development of their communities and the nation, carried placards showing messages of unity, tolerance and the need for politicians to avoid abusive language in Election 2012.

As part of activities to observe the day, global peace games were organized by 'Play Soccer Ghana,' a non-governmental organization (NGO), which offers the youth the opportunity to develop through education and football.

The children took part in fun games at the Oguaa Football for Hope Centre in Cape Coast.

Mr. Abdul Wahab Musah, Country Programme Director for the NGO, noted that children were most affected during civil strives and disputes and it was important to involve them in peace building efforts.

He called on Ghanaian children to propagate the message of peace to their parents and members of the communities in which they live.

The children were joined by Chairman of the Central Regional Football Association, representatives from the National Commission for Civic Education, the police and the media to sign a peace manifesto.
