Accra, Sept 20, GNA – The Ghana Commercial Bank Limited (GCB) has made available an amount of GH¢ 19,416.00 for the construction of a classroom block for pre-school pupils of Fawoman District Assembly Primary School in the Ahafo-Ano South District.

The amount will cover the construction of a-two classroom block, office and resting/sleeping rooms for the children.

A statement issued in Accra by Mr Emmanuel Kojo Kwarteng, Investor Relations and Corporate Affairs at the Bank, said this was in response to an appeal made by the school authorities and the people of Fawoman through the Daily Graphic.

It said the Headmaster of D/A Primary School in the publication appealed for new classroom for Kindergarten pupils which was in a deplorable state.

The statement noted that more than 110 pupils aged between three and seven years study under that dilapidated wooden structure. The old structure was constructed in 1987 by the Fawoman community to serve as a workshop for technical subjects introduced under the Junior Secondary School programme but was allocated to the pre-school department after the malfunctioning of the workshop.

“Before then the pre-school children studied under a shed made from palm branches,” it added.

It said communal labour would be organized by the community as their contribution towards the project completion.

Mr Simon Dornoo, the Managing Director of GCB, expressed the confidence that the gesture would help enhance the school's environment for teaching and learning.

“We see education of children as a priority hence our decision to approve and construct the block for the benefit of the children,” he said.

The Managing Director said the GCB believed in making a positive contribution towards improving society in which it operates hence their commitment to construct the school block.
