CONFLICT RESOLUTION AT PRAMPRAM
15.09.2012 LISTEN

The Prampram Traditional Council and the elders of the six houses of Kley have resolved the conflict between Kley Obonu-wem and Kley Abordo in order to refurbish peace and harmony in the family.

Over the past twenty (20) years there has been a great muddle in the installation of Mankrolo after the death of Nene Afutu Nartey-II.

The whole family was in a shambles due to who and whom to be installed.

Speaking to Nene Atsure Benta III who is now the Mankrolo of Kley Weku and Mankrolo of Prampram said “We have three division this comprises of Kley Abordo, Kley Obonu-wem and Kley Tsokunya and the Mankralo position rotates between the family of Kley Abordo and Kley Obonu-wem, my predecessor Nene Afutu Nartey II came from Kley Abordo this means it the turn of a member of Kley Obonu-wem to be installed as the Mankralo of Kley Weku and Mankrolo of Prampram. After my installation, Kley Abordo said no”.

We are not supposed to inherit the throne and so there were unhappy and this brought the confusion between the two families. They took me to several court among them were the Tema court, high court and the Regional house of chiefs. The case was dismissed because it is a chieftaincy issue so the case finally sat on the traditional council.

Since 1995, we started going into the case in the traditional council and which I won. They brought me an expiate motion to stop me from performing rituals for the stool which has been compel.

Later, they took the case to the arbitration court before the Honourable Minister of chieftaincy. So we appear before his arbitration committee comprising the Regional Minister, the District Chief Executive and high dignitaries and they gave their ruling that am the rightful person to be on the throne.

After that, the District Chief Executive was asked to ensure that really there is peace and harmony but the paramount chief and his people kick against the ruling saying “the minister and his people are not the right people to give judgement”. - He added.

By custom, when the Paramount Chief is not around the Mankrolo has to step in till he is back.

The chairman of Kley, Mr Emmanuel Tetteh Nartey admits that there was a conflict doing the installation of the Mankrolo Nene Atsure Benta III because we did not settled before Kley Obonu-wem installed him.

Going by the book, both families realised that were fooling so we pass this resolution at peace and reconciliation meeting.

Today that there is unity, this means the Paramount Chief have no power and again and they will be adequate development in our community.

Members of Kley Abordo Weku unanimously agreed to accept and respect the demands of the stool revealed through the sooth sayer regarding the stool ritual performance to its original status quo.

Nene Awuley Kwamei and Osofutse Mensu did not shilly-shally to expressed their joy towards the resolution of peace and harmony at Prampram.
