Aronsen outshines strong field at Cal Invitational Golf

Ole Ronald Aronsen has outlasted perhaps the strongest collection of contenders in any single tournament. Ole, a member of the Tiger group at Achimota GolfClub turned out unique style for first place finish at the Cal Bank Invitational Golf over the weekend.

After series of sumptuous approach shots and putting accuracy, the Norwegian shot stableford points of 45; 4 clear shots from his closest contender, Francis Andoh in the Men Division.

Playing a field that included regular winners of major tournaments; Richard K. Mensah for Infinity Masters, Joseph Klah( MTN Classic), Enoch Owusu (Tigo Open) and Vincent Cofie(Taysec double winner), Ronald having gone winless for six months never felt in the mix.

“The win was really unexpected. For the past six months, I have not had a good play and the last time I played, I shot 78 net,” he told The Golfer newspaper, adding that, “It was quite difficult with the various holes because the golf course was very dry. It was also difficult to see how far the ball could go.”

Meanwhile, Owusu combined long and straight drives with composure on the greens but only succeeded for third place on 40 stableford points. B. Ernie 40 points for fourth place and Joseph Klah for fifth place on 39 stableford points.

In the Ladies Category, Beatrice Vetsch-Bempong set the tone for an epic golf chase after sinking birdies on holes one and 9. A loud whisper to her caddie that, "we are going to par the rest of the holes" wittily translated into her parring holes 10, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, and 17 to finish with 21 stableford points, bringing her overall points to 39.

Catch me-if-you-can lady golfer, Jessica Tei followed up with 37 stableford points for second place. Nana Bema-Tackie secured 36 points for third place with M. Owusu-Baah 35 points for fourth place.

In the Junior category, Isaac Kofi returned a net score of 67 for first place beating into second place, John Kwashie on a net score of 72.

Francis Andoh took the prize for closest to pin for men, whiles Jessica Tei grabbed it for Ladies. Yao Dogbe won the Longest Drive for men, with Leticia Amponsah Mensah shinning for Ladies.

Battling a relatively dry course among the golfers did not take away the chill factor of the event. Cal Bank scored great with exciting prize giveaways, superb delicacies at every turn, special putting contest, exotic 'combo' of cocktails and can't-wait-to continue azonto fiesta to crown a truly eventful day.
