Accra, Sept 1, GNA - Turn-out at centres for the exhibition of the Biometric Voters Register in the Ayawaso East constituency on the first day was encouraging in some centers.

Other centres, however, experienced low turn-out. Visits to some centres by the Ghana News Agency saw registered voters trooping in one after the other to check their details in the register which will be used for the December parliamentary and presidential elections.

Voters are required to verify the inclusion of their names and correct spellings, age, polling station name, and other details.

Ms Joyce Hini, Exhibition Officer at Godson International School, said 137 out of 1061 registered voters as at 1100 hours had checked their names.

Ms Hini said there were three exceptional lists – those excluded from the voters' registration; non-Ghanaians; and report on deceased person.

She said the exercise had just begun and hope people would come to check their details as the day progresses.

At the Hajia Ladi's Polling Station, 50 eligible voters out of 1,696 voters in the register had checked their details at the time.

Ms Fati Yakubu, Exhibition Officer at Vonat Bakery Polling Station said five people out of 639 registered voters had come to verify their details.

She also attributed the low turn-out rate to the low publicity on the start date of the exercise. She suggested open air announcement by the Information Service Department to help create more awareness.
