Biometric voter exhibition takes off smoothly in Western Region

Takoradi, Sept. 1, GNA - The nationwide biometric voter exhibition exercise started in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis with a few number of people verifying their details in the register.

The Ghana News Agency (GNA) checks at some exhibition centres in Takoradi and other surrounding communities on Saturday showed a general slow pace of the exercise.

Most resident said they were not aware the exhibition exercise was starting today.

At Columbia exhibition centre in Takoradi, 57 registrants had verified their details as at 1300 hours on Saturday.

According to the Western Regional Director of Electoral Commission (EC), Mr. Steve Opoku-Mensah, 1.4 million eligible voters were expected to check their details by the end of the 10-day exercise in the region.

He admonished voters to verify their personal data for correction so as to avoid inconveniences during the day of voting on December 7.

The EC conducted a nationwide biometric registration from March 24 to May 5, this year, which 13 million eligible voters registered.

This is to enable qualified voters to exercise their franchise in the upcoming parliamentary and presidential elections in December.
