EDAIF to commence operations in Northern part of Ghana

Tamale, Sept. 1, GNA –The Export Development and Agriculture Investment Fund (EDAIF) is to extend its services to the Northern, Upper West and Upper East Regions.

This is to enable groups and institutions in these regions to benefit from the financial package, technical support and promotion of export products being offered by EDAIF.

Mr. Abdul-Nashiru Issahaku, Acting Chief Executive of EDAIF, announced these in an interview with the Ghana News Agency.

It was at sidelines of the 3rd Northern Business and Investment Fair in Tamale that attracted officials of banks and insurance companies

The five day-fair themed: “Bridging the development divide through investment promotion,” is aimed at showcasing business potentials of the northern sector of the country.

The fair being organised by the Business and Financial Times newspaper attracted both local and national exhibitors and commodities on show included batik, tie and dye, baskets, leather sandals and bags.

Mr Issahaku said the EDAIF would explore business opportunities in the three regions and collaborate with the Savannah Accelerated Development Authority to help improve the livelihood of farmers.

The Northern Regional Minister, Mr Moses Bukari Mabengba, in a speech read on his behalf, said the three regions could compete favourably in the business environment if given the enabling platform.

He said the area had vast range of tourist attractions, which included the Paga crocrodile pond, Mole National Park, Salaga Slave Market, the Laribanga Mosque, Nalerigu Defense Wall, and hippopotamus Sanctuary.

Mr Mabengba said opportunities existed in the hospitality industry, transport, agriculture, education, mining and construction.
