Rev Nwea-Ackah of Tamso Catholic Parish laid to rest

Half Assini (W/R), Aug. 31, GNA – Burial took place on Thursday at the St Mary's Minor Seminary Cemetery at Apowa near Takoradi in the Western Region of the late Rev Fr Mathias Nwea-Ackah, 34 who died after a tragic car accident.

The deceased, a Parochial Vicar of Tamso Catholic Parish near Tarkwa in the Western Region died on Sunday, August 12 when his vehicle he was driving ran into embankment of a roadside hill near Tikobo Number One in the Jomoro District.

He was returning to the Nawulley Sanctuary near Tikobo Number One around 1900 hours when the accident occurred. He was rushed to the Half Assini Government Hospital but was pronounced dead shortly on arrival.

Rev Fr John Effeh, Parish Priest of St Patrick Catholic Church, Half Assini who briefed the Ghana News Agency on Friday, said the burial was preceded with the laying in state of the body at the Star of Sea Cathedral, Takoradi on Wednesday before interment on Thursday morning.

The funeral was conducted by the Most Rev Mathias Nketsiah, Archbishop of Cape Coast and Apostolic Administrator of Sekondi-Takoradi Catholic Diocese with the Cathedral Choir in attendance. Eighty Catholic Priests and Monsignors from within and outside the Diocese including the Vicar General of Grand Bassam in Cote d'Ivoire, Mongisgnor Abola Kofi attended the funeral.

Rev Fr Effeh said wreaths were laid by the bereaved family, friends and individuals of the deceased as well as Apowa and Tamso Catholic Parishes.

The late Rev Fr Nwea-Ackah was born on February 24, 1978 and was ordained Catholic Priest on December 13, 2008.
