Mpraeso(E/R), Aug 31, GNA - Kwadwo Owusu, a 27 year-old farmer, was on Friday jailed 36 months in hard labour by a Circuit Court at Mpraeso for stealing his mother's sheep and GH¢135.00.
Owusu pleaded not guilty to the charge of stealing and unlawful entry before the court presided over by Mr Kwaku Osei.
Detective Police Inspector Andrews Anim Yirenkyi told the court that the complainant trades in livestock mostly sheep and goats while her son was a farmer.
He said on February 10, the complainant locked her room and left the house only to return few minutes later to detect a theft of her sheep while her room had also been broken into and the money stolen.
The complainant suspected her son as the culprit but all efforts to trace his whereabouts failed and therefore reported the case to the Bepong police.
Inspector Yirenkyi said the police had information that Owusu was seen with a sheep heading towards Mpraeso and was later arrested.
He said Owusu in his caution statement admitted having stolen the money but denied stealing the sheep and after some investigations, he was charged with the offence.
