GHANA SHIPPERS COUNCIL AND GHANA REVENUE AUTHORITY EXPOSED OVER SHADY DEALS AT AFLAO BOARDER

It is undisputed fact that all stake holders in the country are poised to fight for the country's balance of payment deficit. This is actually done by discouraging over consumption of imported goods and encouraging the consumption of locally produced goods.That is to say, taxes are increased on foreign produced goods through such charges as Insurance Freight (C.I.F) values among others.

However, the attitude of the Ghana Shippers Council seems to be hinting hard as it dubiously and corruptly operate by exaggerating the C.I.F values on genuine traders at the Aflao border.

Aflao border is not a seaport or harbor where they import goods in large quantities or extraordinary expensive goods from abroad but , official entry or exit point where poor petty traders import goods from neighboring countries. From our investigation gathered so far, it is unprecedented in this contemporary times for Ghana shippers council to levy importers, 0.83 cost insurance freight value.

According to some traders who were interviewed, they categorically stated that, this is a killer gargantuan levy which they cannot pay. the Ghana shippers council should be reminded of fact that the poor petty traders are Ghanians who also contribute their quota to the development of the country's economy. We therefore entreat the government and all stakeholders to call Ghana shippers council to order at the Aflao border
