GLOMEF TO INSTITUTE PRESIDENT J.E.A MILLS PEACE FELLOWSHIP AWARD

Global Media Foundation (GLOMEF), human rights and anti-corruption media advocacy foundation is to institute Senior Peace Fellowship Award in honour of the legendary late President Mills.

The fellowship which would be known as President J.E.A Mills Senior Peace Fellowship would help provide scholars, policy analysts, policy makers, journalists, human rights activists, peacemakers and other experts with opportunities to spend time in reflecting and writing proposal on pressing challenges facing Africa in particular and the world as a whole.

The CEO of GLOMEF, Raphael Godlove Ahenu Jr. who disclosed this to the media said the Pro J.E.A Mills Senior Peace Fellowship Award is to honour the late President Mills who has been described by many as an epitome of peace, human rights and justice which he exemplified through tolerance and respect for the views of Ghanaians even under intense criticism during his tenure of governance.

Mr. Ahenu Jr. said in selecting the fellows, priority will be given to proposals deemed likely to make timely and significant contributions to the understanding and resolution of ongoing and emerging conflicts and other challenges to international peace, security, corruption and human rights.

Projects, he said will also be chosen based on the quality of project design and its ability to be implemented, as well as the candidate's project track record and potential as a fellow.

The late President Mills, the CEO noted was a strong advocate for human rights and for the fair treatment of all at all time, there is therefore the need to honour him with such fellowship to help build the capacity of the young generation.

Mr. Ahenu Jr. said the Senior Peace Fellowship will last for one month, starting in July every year and will be opened to citizens of any country particularly Africans.

The CEO noted that Applicants will propose projects with clear policy relevance in the area of human rights, peace and corruption as well as good governance which the late President Mills championed during his three year and half years of rule.

He further disclosed that, the foundation will also institute President Mills Peace Award to honour the youths and youth led organizations whose activities are aimed at promoting peace and harmony in Africa. The Peace Award, he noted would help inculcate in African youth spirit of peace and harmony in order to help reduce political conflicts and wars on the continent.

. The CEO of GLOMEF further said President Mills Peace Memorial Lectures will be organized every year from July 21st which was his birthday to 24thJuly which was his death date for the youth across Africa to help inculcate in them the legacy of the late President Mills.

This, according to Mr. Ahenu Jr. would the youth to become accountable, faithful and honest leaders in any position they find themselves even if it is the position of family head as the late President Mills did as the President of the Republic of Ghana.
