Liberia Equally Deserves A War Crime Court

26.08.2012 LISTEN
By Liberian Initiative for Justice (LIJ)

After the arrest, indictment, prosecution, conviction, and sentencing of Mr. Charles G. Taylor on 30 May 2012 for 50 years for aiding and abetting war crimes and crimes against humanity in Sierra Leone and against the people of Sierra Leone, Liberians and Friends of Liberia all round the world are asking themselves and powerful nations the fundamental question: If the international community could summon the courage and willpower to commit its resources and revenues to arrest, indict, prosecute, and sentence Mr. Charles G. Taylor to prison for 50 years to establish justice and accountability in Sierra Leone and for the people of Sierra Lone, why and why not in Liberia and for the people of Liberia?

If the United Kingdom (UK), United States (US) the European Union (EU), United Nations (UN) and the world could see the need to call for and support the establishment of an United Nations backed War Crimes Court in Sierra Leone to arrest, try and punish Mr. Charles G. Taylor and some warlords of Sierra Leone for committing war crimes and crimes against humanity in Sierra Leone; absolutely, Liberia and the people of Liberia should not be ignored and left alone to fishing for justice and accountability for war crimes and crimes against humanity equally committed by Liberian Warlords and those who financed their atrocities and destruction in Liberia.

The war that destroyed lives and properties in Sierra Leone was planned in Liberia and transported to Sierra Leone by Mr. Charles G. Taylor, Liberian Warlords, and their financiers. The Rebel Group, the Revolutionary United Front (RUF) is the making of Mr. Charles G. Taylor and Liberian Warlords and those who callously and equally financed the war both in Liberia and Sierra Leone. The political leaders and warlords of Sierra Leone openly resided in Liberia and were supported and sustained in Liberia by Mr. Charles G. Taylor, Liberian Warlords, and their associates. Both in Liberia and Sierra Leone, war crimes and crimes against human were openly committed. But today, the World has abandoned Liberia and Liberian War Victims. Absolutely, this is sad, morally unfortunate, and clearly unprecedented!

Liberian Initiative for Justice (LIJ):Representing the voices of Liberian War Victims and Friends of Liberia is today announcing and calling on the United Nations, United States, the United Kingdom, European Union and other friendly members of the international community to please stand up for Liberia and with Liberian War Victims. By and through our 13-page petition, Liberian Initiative for Justice (LIJ) is calling on the World to establish an UN-backed War Crimes Court in Liberia because Truth and Reconciliation have failed in Liberia. Liberian War Victims and the people of Liberia strongly believe that war crimes and crime against humanity must be punished and not swept away without justice and accountability. Now is the time to stand up for Liberia and with Liberian people.

Liberian warlords and their associates deserve to equally account for their crimes in Liberia.
