The regional indigenes awards (odehei awards), as the base for October 2012 maiden edition it is important to note that the Ga-Adangbe is an ethnic group of the west African nation of Ghana. Which form part of the Damgbe ethinic group, the Ga people are grouped as part of the Ga- Adamgbe ethnolinguistic . grouped of the ga state of the capital city of Ghana.
Speaking in a exclusive interview with the al-Hajj the chief event officer of odehei awards Mr. Nii Teiko kome hinted that this year odehei awards maiden edition is under the theme; coming together: recognition, acknowledgement and appropriate rewards.
The Ga adangbe people in habit mostly the greater Accra plains, but some are found in the eastern region at Akuse, Somanya, Dodowa,Akwapim, Akwamu and surrounding areas in Ghana.
Further more, others live in the Anocho area in Togo, where the modern day Dangbe include the people of Osu, Shai , la , Ninjo ,Spone Osudoku, Krobo , Gbugbla(prampram), Ada and Agotime who speaks similar dialects .
Ga state also include the Ga-mashie groups occupying neighbourhoods in the central part of Accra, and other ga speakers who migrated from the Akwamu, Anecho in Togo, Akwapim and surrounding areas Mr. Kome noted that about 2000000 Ga-Adangbe speakers, making up to 8% of Ghana's population.
Adding that most Ga lives in the south-eastern coastal region of the country, around the capital of Accra, which the ga founded in the 16th century as a trading port.
The tradional gah kindom of nkra gives accra it name, nkra state has been ruled by succession of kinds known as ga mantse since it founding in 1510.
In more recent times, Tetteh Quarshie is a given credit for bringing cocoa to Ghana in the 19th century from Burkina faso to Ghana. `
Nii Teiko kome reterated the fact that this year regional house of chief's ingenes awards(odehei awards) is to identify morals and social values.
The Ga- Adangbe region cannot be complete without our krobo brothers who were lured to join the eastern region, are seriously suggest that efforts should be made to bring them back to our fold, he stressed .
