President Mahama in Cape Coast on "thank you" tour

Cape Coast, Aug. 18, GNA – President John Dramani Mahama was on Friday accorded a rousing welcome to the Central Region.

The President is visiting the region to say thank you to the people for the role they played during the funeral of the late President John Evans Atta Mills.

President Mahama made brief stopovers at Kasoa, Awutu, Mankessim.

President Mahama visited the Kotokuraba Market and the Cape Coast Mosque before addressing a colourful durbar at the Cape Coast Victoria Park.

He assured the people that he would implement all projects the late President Mills planned for the region.

The Ghana News Agency spoke to some dignitaries at the durbar grounds about the President's visit.

Professor Samuel M. Quartey, Ghana Ambassador to the Czech Republic said the visit was very timely, appropriate and welcoming, adding that, the thank you message was well received by the people of the region and there was indication that the region had accepted him (President Mahama) as their son.

Mr E.K.T. Addo, a legal practitioner described the visit as heart-warming and said, starting the nationwide visit from the Central Region, the home of the late President was most appropriate.

Mr Theophilus Aidoo-Mensah, Gomoa West District Chief Executive said the speeches delivered by the President proved that he had an insight of issues concerning the country and that; “he (Mahama) talks with humility and knows what to say at a particular time.”

He said the President promise to construct the Kotokuraba Market and the Cape Coast Sports Stadium had given hope to the people of the region.

Ms Sabina Appiah Kubi, Assin South District Chief Executive (DCE) and aspiring National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Assin South Constituency said President Mahama had given the hope that he was going to lead Ghanaians to executive the Better Ghana Agenda.

She said the President pledge to complete the work started by Prof Mills was reassuring.

Mr Alex Antwi-Boasiako, Assin North South Municipal Chief Executive said President Mahama demonstrated that Ghana had found a replacement for Prof Mills and that the President's humility and selflessness could be compared to that of the late President Mills.

Mr Ato Amoah, Central Regional NDC Youth Organiser said the visit had given hope to the youth of the region.

Mr Kofi Mintah, a Winneba-based Contractor assured the President of the region's preparedness to support him to win the 2012 election if he is given the nod at the NDC congress on September 1.
