Notorious criminal jailed 10 years for stealing
Suhum (E/R), Aug 16, GNA-Osumanu Mohammed 31, described by the police as notorious criminal, was on Thursday jailed 10 years in hard labour by a Koforidua Circuit Court for stealing six half pieces of wax print, five pieces of Kente cloth, an amount of GH¢ 520 and two video decks.
Mohammed pleaded guilty to three counts of stealing, unlawful entry and causing unlawful damage.
Police Chief Inspector Ben Nyonator, prosecuting, told the court presided over by Mrs Wilhelmina Hammond that the complainant is Ex-Warrant Officer Class 01 of the Ghana Armed Forces who lives at Teacher Mante while Mohammed resides at Nsawam.
He said on July 05 year the complainant left his resident to Accra on his normal business.
Mohammed travelled from Nsawam to Teacher Mante purposely to steal and on his arrival started going round the town and on reaching the complainant's residence he realized that there was no one in the house.
Mohammed jumped over the fence wall into the house, picked a machete and forced the main door open.
He then entered the sitting room and ransacked the place and made away with the items.
A witness in the case suddenly emerged and confronted Mohammed.
The prosecutor said Mohammed told the witness that he was looking for a 10- year- old girl who is a daughter of the complainant in the house.
The witness who was not satisfied with the explanation called the assembly man of the town on his mobile phone.
Mohammed sensing danger abandoned the items and took to his heels.
The witness therefore raised the alarm and Mohammed was given a hot chase and arrested.
A message was sent to the complainant in Accra who came down to identify the stolen items.
