APS medical team provides free health screening for residents of Supomu Dunkwa

Supomu Dunkwa (W/R), Aug 16, GNA -The Africa Partnership Station (APS) Medical Team on Thursday provided free health screening for over 1,000 residents of Supomu Dunkwa in the Shama District.

The team, in collaboration with local health workers, provided dental care, eye screening, hygiene guidance and pediatric services for the people in the community.

The APS Medical Officer in-charge of the exercise, Lieutenant Commander Romnel Flores, told journalists at Supomu Dunkwa Limb-Fitting Centre that the exercise formed part of the humanitarian services offered to partner countries of the mission.

He said after the exercise, medical supplies including sunglasses, minor surgical equipment, eye drops, medicine and other items would be donated to the community's only health facility.

He said the team identified hypertension, diabetes, back pain and worm infestation in children, as some of the common ailments found among the people screened.

Lt. Commander Flores said next year the medical team would organise refresher courses for some local health workers to upgrade their skills.

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Shama, Mr. Enoch Kojo Appiah, said the exercise had been of immense benefit to the people in the district and expressed his profound gratitude to the medical team.
