Commercial activities comes to standstill in Kumasi

Kumasi, Aug 10, GNA - Commercial activities in the Kumasi Metropolis came to a standstill on Friday as the nation performed the burial of the late President John Evans Atta Mills.

The usual hustle and bustle, particularly at the Adum Business District was completely lacking for the day.

The streets were virtually empty and deserted and many of the people chose to stay in the quiet of their homes to watch the live telecast of the burial service of their leader from the Independence Square on television.

At the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai District, a huge crowd of mourners congregated at the Bibiani Catholic school park to join the rest of the country in the performance of the final funeral ritual for the late President.

Among them were traditional rulers, the clergy, members and supporters of the various political parties and assembly members.

Mr Joe Adansi Bondah, the District Chief Executive (DCE), eulogized the deceased President for his sublime qualities of humility, honesty, transparency and selfless devotion to the progress of the nation.

President Mills was indeed a great leader and died a hero, he said.
