Journalists unhappy with media arrangements at independence square

Accra, Aug 10, GNA- Local and foreign Journalists who covered the final funeral rites of late President John Evans Atta Mills on Friday expressed their displeasure at the media arrangements that were put in place at the independence square.

While most of them complained about the distance between them and the dignitaries, others expressed concern about government's inability to provide some television screens to enable them to capture all proceedings at the grounds.

The distance between the Journalists and the location of the dignitaries was about 150 metres, which most of the still and video cameras could not capture and produce quality pictures.

Chidi Freedom, a Nigerian Journalist said although the place was peaceful, arrangements were not good enough for him as he found it very difficult to get quality photographs for his country's presidential files.

“We know Ghana has the penchant of providing quality programmes and arrangements, but this one was far below the belt,” he added.

Maureen Grisot, the African Radio France International correspondent in Abidjan, said the sound quality provided was not good enough to file stories for foreign media organizations.

“Ghana has done well over the years in terms of sports, entertainment and political organization, but this one was not the best as a result of the poor quality sound that we had at the square,” She added

Naa Akwele a camerawoman of Viasat 1 television network summarized her concerns as “It was too bad, the distance was too much for us to garner better photographs and pictures for our various media houses.”
