Nkawie (Ash), Aug 09, GNA – A 32-year old driver, Charles Opoku, has been ordered to pay a fine of GH¢240.00 or serve 24 months imprisonment for recklessness.
He pleaded guilty to charges of negligently causing harm, careless and inconsiderate driving.
Detective Sergeant Jonas Adjei told the court presided by Justice Frank Owusu Afriyie that the convict is a driver of a 207 Benz bus that plies the Moseaso-Kumasi route and on July 26, he was speeding towards Kumasi with some passengers on board and nearly run his bus head-on into another vehicle coming from the opposite direction at the outskirts of Kobeng.
In the process he lost control over the steering wheel and the bus fell on its side into a ditch, injuring many of the passengers.
The injured were rushed the Nkawie Government Hospital and later transferred to the Accident and Emergency Centre of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) for treatment.
A report was made to the police and Opoku was arrested.
