IRELAND MOURNS MILLS
Ghanaians in the Republic of Ireland gathered in the Garda Club in Dublin to mark the 7th day of the passing away of President Mills.
The day drew people from all walks of life to solemnly observe the passing on of our former greatest father ever.
The event organized by the NDC Ireland saw prominent Ghanaians and sympathizer in Ireland in attendance. Many were yelling and crying for the loss of the great man.
It was commenced in prayer by Elder Peter Addo of the Church of Pentecost, Ireland.
Many Community and group leaders in the Island of Ireland spoke very fondly of the late President and shared his sense of humility in all spectrums of life and his hardworking.
Other speakers of the occasion include Dr Vincent Agyapong the chairman of the Association of Ghanaian Professionals Living in Ireland (AGPI). According to him, the ex-President was a God fearing and selfless man who cared deeply about the development of the country. He was more of a statesman than a politician and dedicated his life to giving his very best to his country rather than amassing wealth for himself. Unfortunately, he had to contend with abuse and insults from sections of the Ghanaian populace. He advised politicians in Ghana to emulate the humility and selflessness of the late President and be guided at all times by what they can do for their country rather than what they get for themselves by annexing political power. He also advised Ghanaians to avoid the politics of insults.
Mr. Eric Yao, chairman of the NDC, Republic of Ireland stated that the late President Mills was a true gentlemen and a real father figure. He recounted his experiences playing hockey with the Veterans hockey club between 1995 and 1997, where he had the opportunity to play alongside the late President.
He noted that the many positive achievement of President Mills shows how astute a person he was. He endeared himself to many people and has left a legacy in the history of African politics.
Mr. Yao said Ghana would be a better place if people were as humble as President Mills. He encouraged Ghanaians to remain steadfast, and expressed the condolences of NDC Ireland to Mrs Naadu Mills and the entire Mills family as well as condolences to the Government and people of Ghana.
Mr. Yao went on to congratulate H.E. President John Mahama on his swearing in as President and wished him all the best.
Mr. Emmanuel Nyarko, Vice Chairman, NDC Ireland and Mr Antwi Boasiako, Interim chairman of the Ghana Union Ireland also gave tributes to the late President.
Pastor Richy led in prayer for the nation Ghana, never to experience such calamity. In doing so he cautioned that Ghana needs to be prayed for to avert God's wrath on the nation as disrespect to Leaders and Elders is being imbedded in Ghanaian culture and innocent people are being insulted and accused wrongly. To him these are against the principles of God and could bring curse to the nation.
Pastor Sackey prayed for the family of the Late President, and the newly sworn in President. He asked for God's strength over the nation in this difficult time and also prayed for a peaceful election.
