GHAFTRAM mourns Mills, confident in President Mahama

Accra, Aug. 7, GNA - The Ghana Federation of Traditional Medicine Practitioners' Associations (GHAFTRAM), on Tuesday expressed their profound condolences to the family of the late President John Evans Atta Mills, the President and the people of Ghana.

A statement signed by Kojo Odoum Eduful, acting President of the Association, copied to the Ghana News Agency in Accra, said: “We the Executives and members of the GHAFTRAM wish to assure you that we feel your shock, grief and loss on the passing of your late husband, who was our President and the Father of all the people of Ghana.

“We pray that the Almighty God will give you, members of your family, the President of Ghana and the people of Ghana the strength as we mourn the late President John Evans Atta Mills. May the good Lord grant the soul of our departed Father and President perfect peace and rest.”

The statement also congratulated President John Dramani Mahama, who was sworn in as the President of Ghana on Thursday, July 24, after the passing of the President John Evans Atta Mills, that day at the 37th Military Hospital.

It said: “Indeed, you have come into office at a time when our country faces many difficult challenges.

“However, we the Executives and members GHAFTRAM are confident in your ability and strength to steer the affairs of State and the people of Ghana.”

The statement also brought to the attention of the President challenges besetting the promotion and development of traditional medicine in the country.

GHATFRAM expressed regret that despite the availability of huge natural resources and local knowledge to complement the Government's efforts in providing safe, effective and affordable healthcare to the people of Ghana, the current and pending regulations were stifling its members from providing affordable and effective services to the public.

According to GHAFTRAM, just as the Presidency had taken the leadership role in finding solutions to mitigate the HIV/AIDS epidemic, it was its prayer that President Mahama would consider taking a leadership role in the investigations into the various issues, which retarded interventions of previous governments in providing effective solutions towards the advancement of traditional medicine in Ghana.
