Accra, Aug 2, GNA - The Teachers and Educational Workers Union (TEWU) of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), has said the death of late Professor John Atta Mills has caused them a great pain and sorrow because of his active role in the Union in the past.

In its letter of condolence signed by Mr Mohammed S. Bogobiri, General Secretary of the Union, TEWU said, President Mills served as Chairman of the Standing Joint Negotiating Committee of the University of Ghana and TEWU from 1993 to 1996.

It said, the late president also was the Returning Officer for TEWU during the University of Ghana local union branch elections. “He was a father, brother, friend and a pleasant character.

“His commitment, competence, experience and accommodating posture in everything that he did will be missed by our dear nation,” TEWU said.

The Union's leadership and the entire membership extended their heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, the government of Ghana.

TEWU appealed to all citizens of Ghana to honour Professor J. E.A. Mills with a peaceful political campaign.
