Hohoe mourns late Prez Mills

Hohoe, Aug 1, GNA - Residents of Hohoe say late President John Evans Attah Mills would be remembered for exuding humility even at the highest office of the land and his constant preaching of peace.

Sympathizers from all walks of life, clad in red and black mourning apparels paraded the principal streets of Hohoe after the observation of the minute silence at 1415 hours to mark the first week of the demise of President Mills.

They danced to brass band music, borborbor and Asafo music converging at the Hohoe Post Office square to as late as 2030 hours on Tuesday.

The mourners eulogized the late President Mills, saying he epitomized humility, peace and brought simplicity and Godliness to bear on the Presidency.

Mr Constant Tumawu, Hohoe North Chairman of the National Democratic Congress, said President Mills' leadership style was unequal, unassuming and dignifying.

He suggested his style of governance should be taught in schools and his constant preach for peace, which earned him the accolade of “Asomdwehene” (peace maker).

Mr Atsu Egbenunyah, Hohoe Constituency Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), said the demise of President Mills was a “great loss to Ghana, Africa and the world at large.”

“I will remember him for his management of the nation and time consciousness.”

Ms Mary Ofori, a resident, said President Mills would be remembered for his impartiality, pronouncement of “father of all and God-fearing stature.”

Mr Alex Gandedzi, a teacher, said “late President Mills will be missed greatly and especially for deepening good governance, rule of law and firmly giving visibility to the nation.

Absent from the activities were the people from Hohoe Zongo. Mr Jibrilla Buhari, Assemblyman for Bla Electoral Area told the Ghana News Agency that apart from the fast (Ramadan), residents of Hohoe Zongo were advised against participating in public events due to the unresolved security concerns relating to a recent impasse between them (Zongo people) and the indigenes.
