Kumasi, July 31, GNA – The Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA) has called off its strike as a mark of honour to the late President John Evans Atta Mills.
A statement signed by the National President, Mr Joseph Gordon Mensah, and made available to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) said this was the least they could offer as the nation mourned its illustrious leader.
The decision followed a national executive council meeting of the association held at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi on Monday.
The GAUA withdrew its services over the placement of members on the Single Spine Salary Structure (SSSS).
The statement said the association was mindful of the loss and pain that President Mills' death had brought to the people and the call by President John Dramani Mahama to all Ghanaians to join hands in reconciling the country.
"Added to these, were also the recognition of the contribution of the late President to higher education and efforts by the Chairmen of the Councils of the public universities and the Vice Chancellors in finding solution to their grievance".
GAUA was again conscious of the need to sacrifice personal interest at “this particular moment” to salvage the 2012/13 academic year. It, however, invited all stakeholders to work together to resolve the impasse over the negotiations for a market premium for the members.
