Accra, July 27, GNA – The MTN Ghana Foundation in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) on Thursday inaugurated an Information Communication Technology (ICT) Center for the people of Techimantia in Tano South District of the Brong Ahafo region.
The ICT centre furnished with 22 desktop computers, a laptop, a projector, colour printer, photocopier, scanner and digital camera, along with the requisite furniture, was at a cost of 100,000.00 US dollars.
Mrs. Cynthia Lumor, Corporate Services Executive of MTN, said MTN acknowledges Brong Ahafo as one of the key regions for the business of the company.
The initiative is the third of 10 MTN and UNDP ICT centres of learning to be established across the country in less than 12 months.
She expressed her gratitude to UNDP for partnering with the company to successfully complete and hand over three of the ten ICT Centers.
“This initiative is in support of efforts to bridge the digital divide and the implementation of the mandatory ICT component of the new Educational Reform,” she explained.
Mrs Lumor said MTN believes it was important to empower the youth through various avenues like education, health, sports and quality entertainment and the provision of ICT facilities would greatly enhance this.
Mr. Frederick Ampiah, UNDP Partnerships Advisor, urged the chiefs and people of Techimantia, especially the committee with oversight responsibility for the Centre, to make it a lasting testimony of MTN and UNDP's support to the community.
The District Chief Executive of Tano South, Hon. Bukari Anaba-Zakaria commended MTN and UNDP for investing in “such an impactful project to the benefit of the people in the district.”
He said: “the burden of the government would be reduced if all other corporate organizations emulate the good efforts of the two organisations.”
The Centre is expected to serve about 43 schools in the District.
